Furniture Disassembling

Relocation to a new home can be a challenging experience, but with the right moving help, it can also be an exciting adventure. One of the most important tasks you’ll need to tackle when moving is disassembling furniture so that it can be safely transported to your new home. Regardless on whether you’re moving across town or across the country, proper disassembly of furniture is crucial to ensuring that your belongings arrive in good condition. In this article, we’ll discuss the steps you need to follow to disassemble furniture when moving and explore options for moving help, including local moving companies like LA Moving Star.

  1. Preparation. The first step in disassembling furniture is to gather all the necessary tools and supplies. You’ll need a screwdriver (or multiple screwdrivers if you have different types of screws), pliers, a hammer, and cardboard boxes. You may also want to invest in some furniture sliders or a hand truck to make the job easier.
  2. Safety. First Before you begin disassembling furniture, make sure to clear the area around the item and wear protective gear, for instance gloves, to avoid cuts or other injuries. Make sure to also clear a pathway to the door to avoid any obstacles or tripping hazards.
  3. Identify How the Furniture is Assembled. To disassemble furniture, you need to understand how it is put together in the first place. Look for screws, nails, or any other fasteners that are holding the furniture together. Make note of how the pieces are connected so that you can put them back together again later.
  4. Remove Any Removable Parts. Begin by removing any removable parts of the furniture, such as shelves, drawers, and doors. Wrap these parts separately in bubble wrap or packing paper and label them for easy reassembly. This will also help to protect them during transportation.
  5. Disassemble the Main Structure. Once you’ve removed all the removable parts, it’s time to disassemble the main structure of the furniture. Start by removing screws and bolts, being careful not to damage the furniture or your surroundings. Work slowly and methodically, making sure to keep all the screws and bolts organized in a plastic bag so that you don’t lose them.
  6. Label the Pieces. As you disassemble the furniture, use masking tape and a marker to label each piece. This will make it easier to put the furniture back together again once it’s been moved. Be sure to label the pieces in a way that makes sense to you. For example, you might label the headboard of a bed “A” and the footboard “B”.
  7. Pack and Transport. Once you’ve disassembled the furniture, it’s time to wrap the pieces in moving blankets and secure them in cardboard boxes. Make sure to label each box with the contents and the room it belongs in so that you can easily find everything once you arrive at your new home. If you’re moving heavy items, consider using furniture sliders or a hand truck to make the job easier.
  8. Moving Help and Local Movers. If you don’t feel comfortable disassembling furniture on your own, there are many options for moving help. Local movers can assist you with the entire process, including disassembling and reassembling your furniture. A moving company like LA Moving Star can also provide a team of professional movers who are experienced in disassembling and packing furniture. If you choose to work with a moving company, be sure to compare quotes and read reviews to find the best option for your needs.
  9. Reassemble When you arrive at your new home, it’s time to reassemble your furniture. Start by unpacking each box and finding the pieces you need. Use the labels you created during disassembly to help you put each piece back together in the correct order. If you’re having trouble, refer to the notes you made about how the furniture was assembled. With a little patience, you’ll have your furniture back in place in no time.

In conclusion, disassembling furniture is an important step when moving, but it doesn’t have to be a daunting task. By following these steps and considering options for moving help, you can ensure that your furniture arrives at your new home in good condition. Whether you choose to work with local moving company, or prefer to tackle the task on your own, the key is to be prepared and organized.

HOLY MOLY! Where do I even begin. First of all, in the last 6 years, I've moved probably 3-4 times. I've hired through task rabbit, asked for recs through friends, and have even hired those amazing parking lot patrons you see at every Home Depot. Long story short, it's always been a nightmare. Half of my things end up broken, my walls get scuffed, I end up needing to help lift things and spend hours afterwards cleaning up what the movers messed up. When planning my current move, I knew I had some really tricky pieces that were going to be an absolute beast to move to my new condo. I decided to dish out a couple extra bucks and work with an actual moving company this time after my best friend Lauren raved about LA Moving Star for months. When I tell you I'm astonished. First of all, the price was very reasonable and the movers that showed up were actual professionals. I would call them moving artists to say the least. They strategically have so many tricks up their sleeves in getting massive items through very cramped and small spaces. Everything was wrapped beautifully and not a single thing was damaged. Not only that but they were SO efficient. They were hustling, moving fast, and getting it all done in a timely manner. Usually when companies charge by the hour, I tend to notice workers taking their sweet time in certain areas... But this company values integrity and you can tell. They actually care about their customers and it's SO apparent. My specific movers were Alex, Max, and Serg and the 3 boys were spectacular. This move was definitely not an easy one and they even had to completely disassemble and rebuild my three massive closet pieces by hand.I cannot reccomend this company enough and will be reffering everybody I know to use them. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
