It is just 12 miles northwest of Downtown Los Angeles and is bordered by Studio City to the south, Universal City to the southeast, Burbank to the east, North Hollywood to the northeast, and Valley Village to the north. The area was originally part of the Rancho Toluca Mexican land grant, which was acquired by William Wolfskill in 1839. In 1923, it was purchased by real estate developer Fritz B. Burns and named Toluca Lake. The area quickly became a popular destination for Hollywood stars, and in the 1930s, it was home to many of the biggest names in the industry. In the 1940s, Toluca Lake became a popular spot for celebrities to live and play. Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Lucille Ball, and Desi Arnaz all had homes in the area. The area also became known for its golf courses and country clubs. Today, Toluca Lake is still a popular destination for celebrities and is home to many affluent residents. It is also home to several restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues.
